EP 206 - Your Body Isn't Broken, It's Loyal: Why You Keep Freezing on Executing the Strategy You Know Works
Send us a text
Have you ever sat down to execute a strategy you were completely clear on and felt your body just stop? Not tired. Not confused. Stopped. Like someone cut the power. If you're a woman entrepreneur who has done the somatic work, the nervous system regulation, the inner child healing, and still hits the same freeze at every new revenue goal or launch — this episode is going to reframe everything you thought you knew about why.
Jessica Read shares what happened to her last week in the middle of a launch: full clarity on exactly what needed to be done, a delegation list, weeks of refined messaging — and a brain that went completely empty the moment it was time to post. She unpacks what was actually happening beneath the shutdown, why it isn't a healing problem, and why the industry model of 'regulate first, build later' — even the somatic version — is structurally broken.
IN THIS EPISODE
The cycle most high-achieving women entrepreneurs are trapped in: hire a strategist, get the plan, feel lit up, sit down to execute, and watch your body shut down. Jessica names this pattern — hire, plan, freeze, shame, heal, repeat — with forensic precision and zero judgment.
Why the wellness and coaching industry's answer to this cycle is well-intentioned and fundamentally broken. The model of 'fix your nervous system first, then build your business' still treats your nervous system and your business as two separate things. It just sequences them differently. And that is the exact reason it doesn't stick.
The truth that nobody is saying loudly enough: you cannot regulate your nervous system into readiness for a reality that doesn't exist yet. Your nervous system is not a broken machine. It is a sophisticated, real-time threat detection system calibrating to your actual lived identity — not your vision board, not your journal goal, not your intentions.
The distinction between nervous system regulation and identity expansion. Regulation gets you calm. Identity expansion gets you moving. These are not the same thing — and confusing them is why you can be beautifully regulated, lying on the beach, getting the deepest breaths you've had in weeks, and still not be able to execute.
What your nervous system is actually protecting — and it's not your safety. It's your identity. The scrappy one. The overdelivering one. The one who never charges enough. The one who stays slightly invisible. That identity is real, valid, hard-earned — and your nervous system will fight to protect it not because it wants to keep you small, but because it doesn't yet know you're safe being bigger.
The model that actually works: nervous system recalibration, identity expansion, and strategic execution happening simultaneously — not sequentially. Not heal, heal, heal, build. Build in a way that recalibrates as you go.
KEY CONCEPT: REGULATION IS NOT IDENTITY EXPANSION
This is the insight that changes everything for the woman who has done years of inner work and still hits the same wall.
Your nervous system is extraordinarily good at its job. It is calibrating constantly to your actual lived reality — the identity you are inhabiting right now, the beliefs you are embodying right now, the version of you that is real and present and proven. Not the version you're aspiring to. Not the $500K CEO. The version that exists today.
So when you try to execute a strategy that belongs to your next-level self — the woman who leads a team, holds a premium offer, is visible in her full expression without apologising — and your body shuts down, that is not dysregulation. That is your nervous system doing its job perfectly, efficiently, brilliantly. It is protecting you from becoming someone it doesn't recognise.
Nervous system regulation tells your sympathetic nervous system: we are safe, there is no threat, we are fine. It gets you calm. And calm is genuinely useful.
Identity expansion gets you moving. It is the process of building the new identity as a lived, embodied, strategic reality — not visualising it, not affirming it, building it in your body, in your business model, in your daily execution — so that your nervous system accumulates real, tangible evidence that the new identity is safe.
This is why affirmations alone don't work. You can repeat 'I am a million dollar CEO' every morning and your body will laugh at you. Because your body knows what is real. That affirmation does not match the identity it is currently protecting.
This is why mindset work alone doesn't stick either. You can think differently and feel exactly the same, because the nervous system isn't listening to your thoughts — it's listening to your identity.
The shift that actually moves the needle is not: I healed enough to be ready. It is: I took the move and my body learned it was safe. Ready comes after. Not before.
